It's amazing the change that happens in just 6 weeks! I can't hardly believe it's been that long since you joined us - in one moment it feels like just yesterday you arrived and in another it feels like you've always been here.
It's so fun to watch you. You smiled for the first time last week! It was so great; Tucker gave you a sloppy lick and you smiled at him in return. I am a little jealous that he received your first grin. The next day, you granted me with the same sweet smile. Thank you!
You're making more noises and trying very hard to find that thumb! You can't seem to un-tuck it from within your hand though once you get it up for your face. I have no doubt, you will find it very soon. Another change... those cheeks! I can't believe how round and chubby that face is. It couldn't be cuter!
You are the most popular girl at church these days, also. It's fun to see peoples' faces light up at the site of you - you are already brightening peoples' days!
The bottle feeding has begun. You aren't quite sure what to think of that artificial nipple, although are learning. Two weeks from today will be my first day back to work. I'm so dreading the moment I have to leave you for 8 hours! It will be a tearful day, I'm sure. For now, I am focusing on these next 2 weeks.
I love you my sweet.

Daddy's Back to Work
Daddy went back to work this past Monday. Yes, Monday made for a long 12 hours for him and us. Grandma Hempfling is here this week to help out with the adjustment. Grandma and I both knew that come 7:45pm, when Luis got home from work, we would no longer be holding you as he won't put you down. :) "Smothered with kisses" has a whole knew meaning with Luis. He can't stop kissing you, baby Iris. He adores you.
This week was also very interested for your sleep cycle. Somewhere between Sunday and Monday you got your days and nights confused. So you and I were up for about an hour every other hour for a few nights. It's ok though - you seem to be re-adjusting now.
We learned that you are a model baby this week too! Ask any one of my Facebook friends! :) We took you to Portrait Innovations on Tuesday; you were wide awake the whole time and did great! You made it very difficult to keep our spending down.
Tonight we are going to celebrate Luis' graduation from Galen! I'm hoping you don't steal the show too much! ;) I bet Luis shows you off more than his diploma!
Well, tomorrow marks 3 weeks that you've been here, Iris! I keep praying the time will slow down but they go unanswered. You are amazing and I love you!

13 Days
After 13 days of practice, I can say - without a doubt - being a Mom is the best job I've ever had.
Iris was born on Christmas Eve at 8:52AM. In 13 days, this little person who is completely dependent on Luis and me has changed my life completely. She's changed my priorities, my daily routine and the minute to minute thoughts that pass through my mind each day. All of these things now strictly revolve around Iris. It's a change that I could never prepare for but that also has come so naturally from the moment she arrived.
Iris can't talk yet; she doesn't knowingly laugh at the silly faces we make at her; she sleeps for what seems like 90% of the day and yet I am completely content to sit and stare at her for hours on end.
She is perfect.
I'm looking forward to all the changes that will take place this year alone; although, I am also terrified by how fast the time will go. 13 days already and I feel like it's been more like 13 hours. I pray that I can be conscious and aware of her every day, always appreciate the changes and be amazed by her growth.
